The Apollo Chamber Players' concert programming
focuses on the intersection of classical and folk music, while illuminating the ethnic diversity of classical composers and
the unique folk sounds and styles imbued in their music. The
cultural melting pot that is the city of Houston - and America at large - provides a perfect palate with which to showcase
the unique musical folk elements in the cultures of the globe.
Notable recent performances by The Apollo Chamber
Players include a special concert in honor of 'Europe's Day' at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, hosted by the Spanish Consulate
and the Mayor of Houston, Annise Parker; a collaboration concert at the University of St. Thomas honoring the Mexican Bicentennial,
performing works by the multi-faceted and internationally renowned Mexican composer Javier Alvarez; a concert at the Centrum
as special guests of the Cypress Creek FACE Concert Series; the headlining act for Central Market's 2011 'Passport Spain'
España celebration; and exhilarating season concerts, 'Bach, Beethoven and Brahms Bring the Funk and Folk' and 'Gypsies
and Toreadors: Folk Dances from Spain', this past spring at beautiful Zilkha Hall and Duncan Recital Hall, respectively.
